Middle School Photography introduces students to the exciting art of photography while helping them develop essential technical and creative skills. Designed specifically for middle school learners, this course empowers students to explore the basics of camera use, lighting, composition, and subject selection in a fun, hands-on environment. Throughout the course, students will gain a strong foundation in photography fundamentals, including visual storytelling, the elements of art, and principles of design. They'll learn key terminology, explore different tools and techniques, and participate in creative activities that encourage personal expression and critical thinking. Whether your child is brand new to photography or already loves taking pictures, this course will help them sharpen their eye, build confidence, and create images they're proud of—images that are truly magazine-worthy.To complete this course, students will need to provide: Digital camera: “point and shoot” or below A Smartphone may be used for most required tasks; however, appropriate applications will need to be installed to allow the student to make the necessary adjustments to the camera mode, shutter speed, and aperture. USB cable (as needed to transfer photos) Audio recording device Video recording device An everyday household item (like a TV, refrigerator, etc.) Assorted food items Backdrop (blanket, construction paper, sheet, etc.) Word processing software Slide presentation software Online timeline creator

This course will cover various topics in photography, such as history of photography, types of photography, types of camera, camera support equipment, types of camera lenses, exposure, lighting setups, rules of composition, color photography, storing and manipulating images, copyright laws and fair use, and printing photos.Semester B will cover various topics in photography, such as camera exposure settings, portrait photography, advertising photography, architectural photography, photographic special effects, retouching photographs, restoring old photographs, analog photography, darkroom equipment and development, safety procedures, evaluating photographs, stages of production, and photography portfolio.When enrolling in the full year option of this course it will be delivered in two semesters. Transcripts will reflect each semester separately.
