Keystone Alum Kelsey Carter Finds Her Future Through Music and Education
Music, education, travel, and independence 🎶✈️ For Keystone alum Kelsey Carter, flexible learning created space to explore all of them. While attending Keystone, Kelsey participated in dual enrollment and began earning college credit before graduation. She has since earned an associate degree in music and is working toward a bachelor’s degree with concentrations in music and education. Her goal is to become an elementary music teacher and one day open her own music studio.
For Kelsey Carter, enrolling in The Keystone School provided more than a flexible education. It created room for travel, independence, early college experience, and a growing passion for music.
Kelsey needed a learning environment that allowed her to move at her own pace. Keystone gave her the flexibility to focus on two classes each semester while still having time to experience life beyond a traditional classroom.
“I had lots of free time to travel with my dad and go to places like California and Utah,” Kelsey shared.
Although Keystone gave her greater freedom, it also taught her how to use that freedom responsibly. Completing school independently helped Kelsey develop valuable time-management and efficiency skills.
Those skills became especially important as she prepared for college.
While attending Keystone, Kelsey participated in dual enrollment at a local community college. The experience allowed her to begin earning college credit before she had finished high school.
After graduating from Keystone in 2021, she continued studying at the same community college and earned an associate degree in music.
Kelsey then enrolled at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where she began completing a bachelor’s degree in integrated studies with concentrations in music and education.
Her educational journey brought together two interests that will shape her future: sharing music with others and helping children learn.
In the next five years, Kelsey hopes to become an elementary school music teacher. She also plans to pursue an MBA and eventually open a music studio of her own.
Keystone helped prepare her for those goals by teaching her how to take responsibility for her education and trust her ability to navigate challenges independently.
“Keystone helped me navigate being independent,” Kelsey explained. “It fostered confidence in myself that I can figure things out on my own.”
The flexibility she experienced also allowed her to begin building a college foundation earlier than many students. Through dual enrollment, she was able to transition naturally from Keystone into the community college where she later completed her associate degree.
Her advice to current Keystone students is to recognize the value of their flexible schedules and use that time intentionally.
“Hard work pays off, and use the free time you have wisely,” she shared.
Kelsey’s story demonstrates how flexible education can open several doors at once. It allowed her to travel with her family, begin college early, develop independence, and build a future centered on music.
As she prepares to inspire a new generation of students, the lessons she learned through Keystone continue to play an important part in her journey.
