Keystone Alum Myrna Vanessa Ugalde Thinks Bigger Through Global Education

For Myrna Vanessa Ugalde, education has always extended beyond one school, one country, or one point of view.

While attending high school in Mexico, Myrna received the opportunity to participate in an international educational model. She continued taking classes through her local school while also completing coursework through The Keystone School.

The experience allowed her to remain connected to her community in Mexico while gaining access to an American online education and a diverse group of students.

Through Keystone activities and discussions, Myrna learned about the lives, cultures, and perspectives of classmates from different backgrounds.

“I had the opportunity to share activities with different students and read a little about their lives,” Myrna shared.

She also participated in Keystone’s Wellness Club, where she found a welcoming and comfortable place to connect with the online school community.

These experiences helped Myrna recognize that online education could provide more than academic knowledge. It could also introduce students to people and ideas from around the world.

After graduating from Keystone in 2023, Myrna enrolled at the Autonomous University of Aguascalientes in Mexico, where she is currently studying law.

Her long-term goal is to specialize in international law, assist migrants, and work with international organizations.

Keystone helped her begin thinking about her future from a broader, more global perspective.

“It helped me open my mind, organize my knowledge, and learn how to manage my time,” Myrna explained. “It helped me have more goals and think bigger in an international way.”

The independence required in online learning also prepared her for the responsibilities of college. By managing coursework across two educational environments, Myrna learned how to organize her schedule, remain focused, and take greater ownership of her goals.

Those skills now support her as she works toward a legal career centered on international service.

Myrna hopes to use her future education to advocate for migrants and contribute to organizations that work across national borders.

Her ambitions reflect the global awareness she began developing as a Keystone student.

For current students, Myrna’s advice is to recognize how valuable their educational opportunity can be.

She encourages them to learn from classmates with different backgrounds, attend events, participate in activities, and become involved in the larger Keystone community.

“You have a great opportunity to learn, meet people from different cultures, and become involved in amazing events,” she shared.

Myrna’s journey shows that a classroom does not need physical walls to expand a student’s world. Through online learning, students can encounter new perspectives, form international connections, and begin imagining futures larger than the ones they first pictured.

As Myrna continues studying law, she is building toward a career grounded in service, global understanding, and the belief that education can cross borders.
