Consumer Math is designed to teach students the importance of managing their personal finances, allowing them to excel in everyday life. Students will review and practice math skills and learn practical application of the concepts in areas including finance, credit cards, taxes, budgeting, banking, and home expenses.

Math 3 is designed to support true depth of knowledge required by today’s standards. With rich content to form conceptual understanding and enough practice to support mastery, including time built-in for individualized independent practice, games, and offline practice, Summit Math 3 includes the tools and technology that students need to succeed in a blended learning environment. Summit Math 3 focuses on reviewing patterns and number sense; discovering addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division strategies; exploring shapes and calculating area; learning about fractions and equivalent fractions; measuring time, length, liquid volume, and mass; and exploring and making data displays.

Biology is the study of life. It is important to understand the basics of biology in order to understand our own bodies as well as the world around us. This course offers a concise review of Biology topics including the characteristics of life, cell structure, biochemical processes, homeostasis, reproduction and development, evolution, the environment, and more.

The AP Statistics course introduces students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. There are four themes evident in the content, skills, and assessment in the AP Statistics course: exploring data, sampling and experimentation, probability and simulation, and statistical inference. Students use technology, investigations, problem solving, and writing as they build conceptual understanding. The AP Statistics course is equivalent to a one-semester, introductory, non-calculus-based college course in statistics. The AP Statistics course is an excellent option for any secondary school student whohas successfully completed a second-year course in algebra and who possesses sufficient mathematical maturity and quantitative reasoning ability. Because second-year algebra is the prerequisite course, AP Statistics is usually in either the junior or senior year. Decisions about whether to take AP Statistics and when to take it depend on a student’s plans.Course Eligibility Recommendation: Students can take AP courses in 10th, 11th or 12th grade provided they have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

AP® Chemistry builds students' understanding of the nature and reactivity of matter. After studying chemical reactions and electrochemistry, students move on to understand how the chemical and physical properties of materials can be explained by the structure and arrangements of the molecules and the forces between those molecules. Students will examine the laws of thermodynamics, molecular collisions, and the reorganization of matter in order to understand how changes in matter take place. Finally, students will explore chemical equilibria, including acid-base equilibria. The equivalent of an introductory college- level chemistry course, AP Chemistry prepares students for the AP exam and for further study in science, health sciences, or engineering. The AP Chemistry course provides a learning experience focused on allowing students to develop their critical thinking skills and cognitive strategies. Frequent no- and low-stakes assessments allow students to measure their comprehension and improve their performance as they progress through each activity. Students regularly engage with primary source materials, allowing them to practice the critical reading and analysis skills that they will need in order to pass the AP exam and succeed in a college chemistry course. Students perform hands-on labs that give them insight into the nature of science and help them understand chemical concepts, as well as how evidence can be obtained to support those concepts. Students also complete several virtual lab studies in which they form hypotheses; collect, analyze, and manipulate data; and report their findings and conclusions. During both virtual and traditional lab investigations and research opportunities, students summarize their findings and analyze others' findings in summaries, using statistical and mathematical calculations when appropriate. Summative tests are offered at the end of each unit as well as at the end of each semester and contain objective and constructed response items. Robust scaffolding, rigorous instruction, relevant material, and regular active learning opportunities ensure that students can achieve mastery of the skills necessary to excel on the AP exam. This course provides a comprehensive survey of all key areas: physical systems, measurement, kinematics, dynamics, momentum, energy, thermodynamics, waves, electricity, and magnetism, and introduces students to modern physics topics such as quantum theory and the atomic nucleus. Beginning with the Declaration of Independence and continuing through to the present day, students explore the relationship between individual Americans and our governing bodies. Students take a close look at the political culture of our country, and gain insight into the challenges faced by citizens, elected government officials, political activists, and others. Students also learn about the roles of political parties, interest groups, the media, and the Supreme Court. They discuss their own views on current political issues. Diagnostic tests assess students' current knowledge and generate individualized study plans, so students can focus on topics that need review.

Geometry course builds on the geometry covered in middle school to explore more complex geometric situations and deepen students’ ability to explain geometric relationships, moving toward formal mathematical arguments. Civics is the study of citizenship and government. This one-semester course provides students with a basic understanding of civic life, politics, and government, and a short history of government’s foundation and development in this country. Students learn how power and responsibility are shared and limited by government, the impact American politics has on world affairs, the place of law in the American constitutional system, and which rights the American government guarantees its citizens. Students also examine how the world is organized politically and how civic participation in the American political system compares to that in other societies around the world today.

Middle School Spanish I has been carefully aligned to national standards set forth by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). Students in Middle School Spanish I focus on the four key areas of world language study: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Earth science is the study of the systems of Earth and the cosmos. The systems of the Earth include the atmosphere we breath to the land on which we live. The cosmos is the universe including the stars, galaxies, and solar system. The study of all the Earth is important for the understanding of our impact on the environment and space.

Geometry is a branch of mathematics concerned with questions of shape, size, relative position of figures, and the properties of space. In this course, you will explore and review various math concepts such as points, lines, and planes. You will look at a variety of angles and polygons. While comparing these, you will find area and volume as well as missing measurements. You will also learn to calculate various aspects of angles. All these functions and calculations will help you develop deductive reasoning skills necessary for future math courses.

This course is a survey that provides students with a comprehensive view of American history from the industrial revolution of the late nineteenth century to recent events. Readings are drawn from Stride's The American Odyssey: A History of the United States. Online lessons help students organize study, explore topics in-depth, review in preparation for assessments, and practice skills of historical thinking and analysis. English 10 is designed to build on the writing and literary skills of prior courses. Students will deepen their analyzation skills with units in Poetry and Short Story analysis. Students will also expand review and develop their grammatical skills to apply the knowledge to two writing units. The Personal Narrative unit will allow students to apply what they learned in the Short Story Unit to create a creative work, based on their personal experience. In the Opinion Writing Unit students will learn to determine their position on a topic, create a thesis based on that position, and then construct an essay to support that argument. Students will apply skills in research, MLA formatting, and persuasive techniques.

Science 5 brings science alive by providing students a combination of virtual lab investigations (with options for hand-on learning), interactive lessons, and an array of e-books that capture students’ attention and grow their interest in science. Students engage in science and engineering practices as they explore topics such as matter, organisms, ecosystems, the earth’s systems, and the earth’s place in the universe. Throughout the course, students conduct investigations using digital tools and simulations. Some labs also include alternative investigations that use household materials.

This one-semester elective is designed to increase students’ knowledge of, and ability in, using the skills necessary for everyday living. Fourth Grade American Studies investigates a variety of United States social studies and history from our earliest settlers to building a modern world. The course starts with map skills and the use of maps to explore America’s regions and natural resources. A look at the nation’s history begins with pre-Columban societies and the conflicts arising from the arrival of European settlers. Students will embark on a tour across the nation, with a focus on historic sites and other landmarks. The course continues with an overview of the lives of early settlers and important milestones including westward expansion, civil rights, and how the country has grown and changed over time. Students complete a project about their state, with a focus on strengthening research, analysis, and presentation skills. Students learn about citizenship and the major components of the government as outlined in the United States Constitution. The Physical Education - Grades 6-12 Basketball Course will provide you with an introduction to wellness and the lifetime sport of basketball. You will learn about physical activity and its relationship to your health, as well as the basic skills necessary to pass / catch, dribble, and shoot in the sport of the basketball. The course will have a nice introduction to the game of basketball and divided into four sections that will introduce you how to pass, shoot, dribble and catch.

In this course, students will explore their choices as producers, consumers, investors, and taxpayers. Students apply what they learn to real-world simulation problems. In addition, they will learn financial literacy skills emphasizing investments, markets, and taxation. Students will apply what they learn to real-world simulation problems. Topics of study include markets from historical and contemporary perspectives; supply and demand; budgeting; understanding creditworthiness and credit reports; saving options; debt reduction; theories of early economic philosophers such as Adam Smith and David Ricardo; theories of value; money (what it is, how it evolved, and the role of banks, investment houses, and the Federal Reserve); Keynesian economics; how capitalism functions, focusing on productivity, wages, investment, and growth; issues of capitalism, such as unemployment, inflation, and the national debt; profiles of individuals who are making their mark in business and economics; and a survey of markets in such areas as China, Europe, and the Middle East.

This course introduces students to the history, theory, and genres of music. The first semester covers basic music theory concepts as well as early musical forms, classical music, patriotic and nationalistic music, and twentieth-century music. The second semester presents modern traditions, including American jazz, gospel, folk, soul, blues, Latin rhythms, rock and roll, and hip hop. The course explores the history of music, from the surviving examples of rudimentary musical forms through to contemporary pieces from around the world. To comply with certain state standards for the arts, a student “performance practicum” is required for full credit each semester. The performance practicum requirement can be met through participation in supervised instrumental or vocal lessons, church or community choirs, community musical performances, or any other structured program that meets at regular intervals and provides opportunities for students to build vocal and/or instrumental skills. Parents or guardians will be required to present their student's proposed practicum to the student's teacher for approval, and validate their student's regular participation in the chosen performance practicum.

English Language Arts 5 provides a well-balanced approach to literacy that connects reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling into one integrated program. Dedicated time for keyboarding practice is also included. The course is made up of 12 units. Each unit contains workshops that center on one major focus (reading, writing, or word study) for instruction and reinforcement of big ideas. In reading workshops, students read independently in a variety of genres and formats—fiction, poetry, drama, nonfiction, magazines, and graphic novels—before exploring each text through various activities. In writing workshops, students analyze model writing samples and then work through the writing process to develop original compositions of their own. They learn about grammar, usage, and mechanics and apply those skills as they revise and proofread their work. In word study workshops, students grow their vocabulary by learning the meanings of groups of conceptually related words. They acquire the concepts through reading and listening comprehension activities, association activities, and writing practice. Vocabulary and grammar are introduced in context and are practiced through a variety of interactive activities and exercises. They will also investigate how to think like an economist. Students will explore different economic systems, including the American free enterprise system, and they will analyze and interpret data to understand the laws of supply and demand. From economics in the world of business, money, banking, and finance, students will see how economics is applied both domestically and globally. Students will also study how the government is involved in establishing economic stability in the American free enterprise system as well as the how the U.S. economy has a global impact.

English Language Arts 4 provides a well-balanced approach to literacy that connects reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and spelling into one integrated program. Dedicated time for keyboarding practice is also included. The course is made up of 14 units. Each unit focuses heavily on reading, interpreting, and responding to a variety of texts and genres. Students are provided with “words to know” prior to reading selections to enhance their vocabulary. The course also focuses on a variety of types of writing, including narrative, opinion, and informational. Grammar, usage, and mechanics are taught throughout each of lessons to help students strengthen these skills and apply them to their written work. Students also learn to focus on spelling patterns that are necessary to be fluent, proficient readers, writers, and spellers.

Students further their understanding of Spanish by focusing on the four key areas of world language study: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Each unit consists of a new vocabulary theme and grammar concepts, reading and listening comprehension activities, speaking and writing activities, multimedia cultural presentations, and interactive activities and practices that reinforce vocabulary and grammar. These activities teach students to communicate with others through informal speaking and writing interactions and to express their thoughts and opinions in both formal and informal spoken and written contexts. Students should expect to be actively engaged in their own language learning, use correct vocabulary terms and phrases naturally, and incorporate a range of grammar concepts consistently and correctly while speaking and writing. They should also expect to participate in conversations covering a range of topics; respond appropriately to conversational prompts; analyze and compare cultural practices, products, and perspectives of various Spanish-speaking countries; read and analyze important pieces of Hispanic literature; and take frequent assessments so that their language progression can be monitored. The course is conducted almost entirely in Spanish. The course has been carefully aligned to national standards as set forth by ACTFL (the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages). Students explore verbs, false cognates, nature, vacation, music, technology, measurement, clothing words, work, shopping and money words, expressions with por and para, relationship, love, social issues, and idioms and expression words.
